Affordable neighborhood supermarket. I work a few blocks away, so I'm constantly stopping in. Much better quality produce and prepared foods than the larger nearby grocery stores (and a lot cheaper!). My go-to spot for a quick lunch or snack.

I have a new found love for this store! I had been trying to find truffle butter but wasn't having much luck, so I stopped in to see if they carried truffle oil to make my own. I was elated when I saw both white and black truffle butters and how reasonably priced they were! Love the cheese and meat selections also! Will definitely be back for the great products at great prices!

Solid little supermarket, with a nice selection of good cheeses. People at the counters are pretty helpful, too. That said, there's not a ton of selection. Some foods tend to be pricey, others less so (relative to what they'd cost elsewhere). My advice is to stick to the gourmet stuff, and you'll get your money's worth.

Such a great supermarket. The prices are comparable to the Gristede's two blocks away (the DeCecco pasta is cheaper here) and the food is so much better. They have a great selection of meats and cheeses and the guys behind the counter know what they are talking about. I love that you can get loose mesculin greens and fresh quiches to make a quick meal. If you have a sweet tooth, don't forget to try the chocolate covered macaroons or the chocolate chip cookies - to die for.

I've had more than one questionably undated sandwich from here and while some were tasty and fresh, others may have been sitting days too long. You, however, can't go wrong with the sliced fresh fruit or the selection of cheeses. I'd just steer clear of some of the "fresh" prepared foods, save for the quiche, which wasn't bad. Though this doesn't happen every time, one of the checkout girls was flat-out rude on more than one occasion.

Todaros has an excellent selection of reasonably priced whole bean, select your grind coffees, the french roast espresso is great and they also frequently have specials on wonderful flavored Emmi yogurt (try the pink grapefruit). They have excellent cheese, meat and prepared salad selections and carefully chosen fruits and vegetables as well as special occasion cakes, imported chocolates and pastas.

If you are looking for anything Italian, this is the place to go. Fresh prosciutto, mortadella, and parmasian cheese are just a few of my favorites. They also have a great selection of fresh bread and pasta imported directly from Italy.

I'm surprised I'm the first one to review! Especially since this is the bastion of gourmet food in the otherwise barren Murray Hill. It's a tiny, cramped, family-owned [I think?] food shop. Given their square-footage, it's pretty impressive how many different varieties of cheese, produce, groceries, meats/seafood, Ben & Jerry's and Ciao Bella, home-made frozen pastas, and great prepared foods they have. Affordable coffee beans in lots of varieties. Looking for a fancy cake for your significant other's birthday? Check. A full spread for a last minute breakfast on the roof-deck? Check. Also, they sell milk and Dannon yogurt at pricers cheaper than at any of the local supermarkets I go to! [Food Emporium, D'Ag, Gristedes] Other prices are variable. Hummus: reasonable. Pre-made sandwiches in the deli: $6-$8. A home-made tangy cheese spread that they sometimes have out with crackers to sample: delicious.

if it wasn't for todaro, i would never have lunch. they have soups, salads, sandwhiches, prepared foods, sushi and fruit daily. and it's all pretty great. the only problem is that it's a little pricy. prepare to spend more than usual.

  • Par G.

it was pretty good. i didn't find it as appealing as many of the reviewers before me however it was good quality and very well priced.

This place is brilliant. It is a neighborhood market and bistro. The way to enter the restaurant is through the market, impressive, and what a market to explore. The cheese area is to die for. This morning I tried enough to make me want to go home and start cooking anything that required CHEESE ‼ The people that work here are so nice and they know their craft. Needless to say I purchased a few items. I learned so much about why I like cheese today; who knew. Love love love this place. As far as the food... Both market and restaurant have been consistently fantastic. So happy to have found this place.

I hadn't been here since they added in the little restaurant on one side, but I went this weekend. My friend and I went to the movies, and then we wanted to grab a drink so we figured we'd give it a try. It was really nice. It's not too big, but it wasn't too crowded. We sat by the open window which was nice. They had a brunch menu that looked good, and some drink specials. We weren't really hungry for a whole meal, but we split a flat bread and got drinks. We got the Prosciutto & Arugula flat bread - Mozzarella/Roma Tomatoes/Parmigiano Reggiano. It was good, and everything seemed really fresh. I got a glass of sangria that was good, and was cute and came in a mason jar. My friend got one of their special mimosas. I forgot what it was called, but it reminded me of a mojito and had mint in it. This place is cute, and the food I had was good, and the drinks seemed reasonably priced. I definitely would go back for drinks or to have a full meal!

Looking for one of those secret places nobody knows about (but has actually been around for 100 years) What a great place! Sounds crazy for an Italian grocery store but the empanadas and kale salad are amazing! A throwback to the old New York where you would find really great food prepared by the family in their own store. You can kick back for a casual lunch or brunch with a really nice wine selection, the charcuterie, crostini is a better than you will find anywhere in the city at about half the price. Then after you can actually buy the products you just ate in the market It is Eataly before Eataly ever existed!

Wow this was a good sandwich! It was soooo packed full of meat. I sometimes work in the area, so this will be my go to spot for a good sub. I ordered the Italian. You could tell the bread was fresh baked.

Was going to watch a movie at the theater across the street and needed a place to eat. Came across this place and i'm glad i did. The wine bar/ restaurant is very cute and cozy. And the food is good. The only complaint i have is that the food took quite long to come out. Also the lasagna was a bit salty.

Really cute shop with great service and a nice selection of Italian goods. I ordered a sandwich with tomato, mozzarella, basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. It looked delicious and seemed to be made with care. The workers were very friendly. However when I bit into my sandwich I got a mouth full of sand. I immediately spit out my bite noticed that there was a large chunk of dirt stuck to the bottom side of the basil leaf. It was really disappointing and gross for that matter. I was in a rush so didn't have time to go back and let them know. I imagine the basil just wasn't cleaned enough. Otherwise the sandwich and my experience would have received a higher rating. I doubt this would happen often so maybe check it out and inspect your basil before chomping down. It looked great on the outside!

Awesome little hidden gem right across from the lips bay movie theater! The mix and match crostini was amazing as was the burrata. The truffle sausage flat bread bread was a little dry but the penne pasta more than made up for it. Also, bottles of wine starting at $27! Will definitely be coming back a lot!

It is a cute Italian grocery store near NYU Hospital. The best part about this little market is their deli sandwiches. They have great cold cut and cheese and their sandwiches are fresh and huge. They also have a daily special, which is a steal for usually $6. They also have these hot food sections during lunch hours and price is pretty fair. I want to try their Italian coffee next time!

Excellent, truly excellent service and products. Do yourself a favor and make a point to stop at this nearly 100 year old New York Deli. The best cannoli I've ever had, and not just by a little bit, by miles.

Great place for wine, sangria with delicious complimenting crostini combinations that is so tasty. Food is great and price is very reasonable.

Decent Italian grocery/specialty spot to make a good meal. There are a variety of cheeses for 'okay' prices and other items to set up a nice antipasto for a few guests. The store has two sides. On this side, i saw juices, prepackaged cold salads, desserts, etc. (And the cashier) available. On the other side, they also have a deli counter with prepared foods, and strangely enough the lighting was dimmer and the was wooden floors. I swear I saw them serving wine at a small bar too on that side as well. The employees we're laid back and friendly.

Used to buy my cold cuts and cheese from Todaro, but don't intend to do it anymore. I was first person waiting on the line to make my order and there was another girl right after me. The guys who accepts orders came (the young one, black hair, tanned skin) and took an order from the girl who was right after me. Without even noticing me?! Since when I am invisible? The older gentelman came and took my order, yet at no point young guy said Sorry. No more Todaro Bros for me for sure! I prefer to walk few more blocks and get a decent service at Eataly.

This is a niche Italian grocery store, literally across the street from my apt. Ever since Fairway opened up across the street this joint hasn't been doing so well. Monday night, I came here to buy salmon because I was short on time. My buddy was coming over, and the line at Fairway went back to the deli counter. The salmon, was a solid $3-4 more per lb than Fairway, but I just don't have the time. And there were 2 workers behind the counter. One was slicing deli meat, while another was helping another customer. I waited to be waited on. And then a 3rd meats worker emerged from the backroom, and we made eye contact. I personally have a philosophy that if the worker doesn't ask me what I need, I don't ask unless I'm in a hurry. I wait to be waited on. Maybe it's my midwestern roots. So we made eye contact, but he had no desire to ask me what I needed. So he left. After the customer in front of me got her purchase, the guy who was previously helping her also took his time to get around to helping me. I'd NEVER come here for ANYTHING unless the line at Fairway is too long for my needs. I went to check out, and the lady behind the register was not nice either. I don't expect you to coddle me, just take my money and let me leave.

Soooo good! They hosted our opening night party for a show we're doing at the clarion theater close by and it was perfect. The staff is so kind and the food is amazing! Can't wait to go back :)

Great grocery/deli and great restaurant. In the restaurant/wine bar, the wine list is very good, and reasonably priced. The food is good quality and very inexpensive - the best bang for your buck on the east side. The manager, Eddy, is very friendly and takes a personal interest in every customer. I'm looking forward to going back.

I usually come to Todaro Bros to pick up a lunchtime special sandwich or specially foods for the home.... Several weeks ago, I lined up a happy hour Tinder date at Todaro Bros. It was a perfect setting for a first-time casual meet up. Todaro Bros recently opened up an off-street little wine bar, tucked inside the grocery store, and they carry an excellent selection of beers and wines to pair with sample platters of food and such. I figured that since they carry excellent specialty prepared foods, we would be in good hands in case we were hungry. The date went really well... The wine bar is cozy, the service was excellent and the food was first rate... I will be coming back for many more Tinder dates! haha

The restaurant next to the store is amazing. The baby arugula salad is on point and the wine is super smooth. Love the Cabernet. Eddie is a great bartender. Knows what he is talking about! Highly recommend :)

Ok, the 2nd time back and now a little discouraged. Two days ago, you charged $12 for a quartino of your night's special wine. Tonight $18? That's the same as a full bottle, which you could have said. You better get your act together. I was not about to argue. It's just easier to go to another local place. The first time they cut in half our crostini to make it easier to share for a couple. Tonight they didn't. The Gnocchi was not as warm as it should have been when served and the eggplant parmesan hero was too cheesy and not enough of an eggplant taste.

So I am 100% Italian and am always picky when it comes to food. If you need fresh deli meats, produce, veggies, fruits in Murray Hill - THIS IS THE SPOT. Yeah you may pay A LITTLE more than others around the area, but the quality is second to none. Unfortunately for them that Fairway opened up across the street...but if I need to get any meat or Italian specialty food...look no further! They also opened up a little sit-down restaurant next door that serves beers/wine and your basic paninis and cheese plates. It is nice that they are able to open the doors up on a nice day to give you the feeling that you are sitting outside somewhat. Overall, a cute little spot if you are looking to take a load off in the area.

Good Italian market! I was told this was the best market around by someone when I moved here 5 years ago. I feel bad for them since the huge Fairway opened across the street. Pretty sure this place has loyal customers though who like the smaller size. They do have a good selection - if you need to make risotto, sauce, good cheese selection, good quality produce, yogurt and lately some good sale prices. Hope Todaro keeps up the good sales..they will keep me coming back! High prices sometimes kept me away but all of the other old supermarkets are high priced too with worse quality than here, so this place is definitely worth a visit.

I LOVE this place. Extremely friendly staff, fresh products, and great location. I enjoy coming here to find unique ideas when I get in the mood to cook (which is not often). I also will grab some of their pre-made chili or soup if I want to heat up a meal at home. Cannot stress how much I enjoy coming here. I also tend to visit after 7 PM, which means most of the time it's quiet and I can do my shopping in peace, which in New York, is a rare and prized opportunity.

A little on the expensive side but great for a special gathering of a small group of friends. I wanted to give a shout out to the cheese counter!! As a huge fan of cheese in general, I went to the counter looking for Brie. I picked up some light Brie cause you know...calories, and the guy was like nope. And showed me a bunch of things they just got on (seriously pulled them out of a box, weren't even priced) and gave me a couple dollars off just for being willing to try this new Brie they got in. It was probably the best cheese I've ever had. A couple more people came up to the counter and he knew them all by name and what they were going to get. Great neighborhood store with excellent quality product.

Can i rate them twice? 7am coffee bean run. Just the nicest most helpful people at the early hour, which is practically 6am, since we just had daylight savings time. But there they are, busily laying out such a nice shop with such wonderful items. Sure I just came for beans, but the just put out fresh bagels with lox and cream cheese. And I could get just a half. How could I not. it was the perfect size and temp and taste. Good morning.

The new wine bar is very cozy and cute. Its a great place to meet up with friends after work for a snack and a glass of wine - especially if you want to have a real conversation. The bars in the area can get very loud! I discovered it on my way home the other day and am glad I did. Its definitely worth checking out the new addition to the neighborhood.

Had a great experience @ Todaro's new wine bar- warm, cosy, excellent food. As an extra treat, my waiter took my list for my take home purchases and brought to my table while I relaxed during my meal- what a plus- highly recommend!

I work at NYU Langone and walked by this place a few weeks until I caved in and got a sammy there for lunch. I went inside thinking hmm a place that's been open for almost a century probably is doing something right.... right? Wrong! I'm a BK boy and I grew up big and strong because of the sandwiches great delis and Italian butchers have been feeding me. To quote the great Mitch Hedberg "NY sandwiches are like a cow with a cracker on both sides." First off I asked if they have eggplant, chicken cutlet or broccoli rabe. They did not. I was about to walk out but it was freezing outside and I was with my boss. I forgot what I ordered but it wasn't great and it was pricey. The very next day one of my coworkers got an "Italian". He literally got once slice of each meat. It was disgraceful and I felt guilty for putting the idea that this place makes good Italian subs. I think Todaro Bros forgot how to Italian.

Spent a couple hours at Todaro Bros., an old world favorite. They've recently added a cozy inoteca to the 97-year old store, which works quite well. A good/interesting beer selection and wines hand-picked, I'm told, by Mr. Todaro himself. I really like the hot sorpressata at the deli counter. Ask for it with just oil and pepper for a really good Italian sandwich. Some really good offerings. I once picked up some amazing imported figs to share with friends at my brother's wedding. An old New York store to rival some well-known names, with a great feel and infinitely cleaner than most.

Amazing neighborhood deli that makes living in Kips Bay so great. Excellent selection of cheeses and meats. Their deli sandwiches are some of the best in the city. HUGE thumbs up!

  • Joann A.

I moved to Gramercy (Kips Bay area) from the upper westside years ago and while there was no Fairway, Trader Joe's or Whole Foods when I moved downtown I was happy to find Todaro Bros. The quality of their produce is far above any of the aforementioned; they have everything I thought I would have to travel back to the upper westside for. Todaro's has opened a cafe in the market, a lovely welcoming room that serves the best quality wine and a menu of small plates. I have wanted to go and finally did tonight. What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Either for a bit before or after a movie or for an early afternoon to just enjoy New York at its' finest. You won't be disappointed, try the flatbread with sausage, portobello mushrooms and spinach and an assortment of crossini sandwichs truly to dye for! Bon-a-petite! Joann A.

  • Regina R.

Love this place. We make a stop every time we're in New York to pick up tasty treats to last us the week, like lox, cheeses, olives, and other random Italian goodies. Some things are so darn expensive here, but then randomly other things are reasonably priced. Can't figure out. The other thing I love, it's so compact. You really can go in, and out, quickly because you're not shifting through aisles and aisles of items. And it really is amazing all that they fit on their shelves, even fresh produce!

  • Scott M.

Todoro's has the best food in NYC hands down! They recently opened a wine bar within the market that serves food pairings along with wine or beer. I couldn't believe how great the food tasted. I highly recommend this hidden treasure to anyone who enjoys authentic, fresh, great tasting food!

  • Jessica P.

I went here last night for some wine and small eats at the enoteca. The wine selection was comprehensive and well described in the menu. The cheese and salami plate was delicious and the crostini plate was great to share. The prosciutto wrapped date and almond was probably the best thing I've ever tasted. Great food, service and atmosphere. And it's right across the street from the movie theatre, so great to pop into before or after. It's truly a gem in kips bay!

This is a pretty solid Italian specialty store and upscale grocer, for when you're in the mood, particularly for this part of town. Their deli counter is fairly standard, and the cheese counter has a nice offering. They also have a prepared food and salad counter, where you can find anything from grilled salmon or chicken, to roasted eggplant, to broccoli rabe, to macaroni or bean salad, to various pasta dishes, and desserts. They do sandwiches as well, but they are premade and packaged, not made to order. This inherently bums me out a bit, but I do get the sense that they are made fresh, as they have always tasted that way and I've never had a bad experience. Cured meats, turkey, ham, veggie...they have all kinds of options, on many different types of breads and rolls. They're not the cheapest, but this isn't exactly Subway, either. Aside from all this, they also operate as a small grocery store, so you can find any number of things that you might need. The produce always looks good to me, and from the little I've noticed, the prices are fair. I don't know that I'd do the bulk of my shopping here, but when you're in a pinch or just need a couple items, it seems like an appropriate place. Overall, I like this place and come from time to time. It's definitely a nice option to have in the area when you want something other than the underwhelming offerings so common to the neighborhood.

I use to shop here before I moved to Florida in 1994 and I never realized how much I miss this place!! Best selection of imported European products but what I miss most is their prepared foods. No one does it better than Todaro Bros. I recently went back to NY for business and decided that I needed a fix of their great prepared foods and salads. Needless to say, they are still the best. I saw the new Fairway and quite frankly was never one for big stores but decided to take a look. No one there was friendly and I didn't get that "home again" feeling. Cattle car to say the least. Long lines and nothing out of the ordinary. Typical supermarket type store. I always would buy a piece of cheese and a salami chub when in Todaro Bros and noted that the prices were way below what I pay anywhere else. Some high end French cheeses were cheaper than typical American sandwich cheese! Great deals, great food and a very friendly staff. Love this place, it brings me back to my childhood days when food was made the old fashioned way. Five Stars all the way. Hope to get back there soon!

  • Matt J.

I love this place as a specialty grocery store for exotic cured meats and cheeses. It's also a great place to find fresh herbs in a pinch. I was disappointed however when I got a craving for a classic Italian cold cut sandwich. You know, salami, sopressata, bologna, etc. on a hero roll with lettuce and tomatoes. I walked in and talked to the guy behind the counter and he said they don't do mixed meat sandwiches and I'd have to buy 1/4 lb. of each meat at market price and make the sandwich that way. He said he'd do me a deal for $20 for three meats. $20 for a damn sandwich? Heaven forbid they cut a smaller amount of each meat to make the sandwich. I didn't realize I'd stumbled into French Laundry. I walked out. Seriously guys, think before you draw your line in the sand.

A New York tradition! Todaro Bros offers a wonderful selection of delicious groceries and specialty items. They also make the absolute BEST sandwiches. I was so impressed with the care and artistry that went into creating a special "hero" for a friend.

Great neighborhood food shop. Very good (if a bit expensive) produce, deli, meats, prepared foods, etc... Todaro's is a great place to pick up lunch. They have an assortment of prepared sandwiches. The antipasto sandwich is a killer (literally if you eat a whole one) Italian hero that received a great review in the NY Times dining section some months ago. The other sandwiches are very good, as well. There are usually two or three soups available per day.

Why's everybody hate on Murray Hill, huh?? I mean, I get last year's all negativo recession style attitude and I totally agree: 2009 was lame. With a capital L. But it's 2010 people! It's already been a better year than last! How about we muster up some of those positive thoughts that have been hiding away and come to terms with this little hood. Try, for instance, to find anything negative about the oatmeal at Todaro. It's 1.50 (who says this hood is expensive?!) and filled with cinnamon and fresh fruit. It was seriously the best oatmeal I've had. Todaro is a small store, but there are many more gems besides the oatmeal like delicious salads, freshly made hummus and specialty items (kelp caviar anyone?). Some of the pricing is a little on the high side, but I feel like it's justified since it's undeniable that the quality is much better than any other market in the neighborhood. Ok, not enough of an argument to start wearing "I heart Murray Hill" tees, but it's a start!

  • Rimme T.

always great food at Todaro's - if you like the gourmet store vibe and high quality, some hard to get, products, then this is where to shop -they have great everything, and that says it all.

It's a specialty store where they have a deli, all types of desserts and coffees and some seafood . I have come here a few times and i must say the staff here aren't very friendly and i was not to happy with there service . i really enjoy there Italian tun which has sliced eggs, onions.I ordered a sandwich for my boss and all i was changing was it had mustard and he wanted mayo so the guy said there is a 1 dollar charge really a 1 extra to just add mayo i'm sorry i think that crazy . so i said that's crazy but i take it so he turned around and said well you don't have to buy it which i thought was very rude and the whole time making the sandwich he was mumbling under his breath and slamming stuff which is so damn rude . i wasn't just disgusted with his attitude like if i bothered him because i asked for a sandwich last time i checked you work in the deli selection and are supposed to make sandwiches .so i wont be returning for a while there are just a few that work here that are friendly. Some items are over priced now i mite just take a walk across the street to Fair way

EVERYONE-----Take a look by the deli section where you go to buy fresh sliced coldcuts. You will see two metal pans filled with water and fresh mozzarella; one pan with fresh large mozarella, and one with mini mozzarella. You will notice a small swarm of flies enjoying the mozzarella and leaving their fresh feces in the water. There are absolutely no covers of any kind to stop the flies from feasting and defecating on the mozzarella and other items of interest. I mentioned this to the manager and he gave me a disregard. I guess they dont care that they could get customers sick. I will never come back there. Filthy!

Todaro Brothers is the glimmer of light in an otherwise bland Murray Hill. Their produce is significantly fresher than any multitudes of supermarkets in the neighborhood, and also priced better! Their prepared foods are also delicious and affordable. Although I will soon escape the confines of Frat Row.. I mean, Murray Hill, I will definitely be coming back to Todaro for their wonderful selection of cheeses, meats and other specialty goods.

A wonderful specialty grocery store and a reason for me to walk over to 2nd avenue. The deal on ventresca (2 for $6) they have right now is fantastic and I'm excited to make some salad nicoise tomorrow. A great spot for grabbing some of the less common ingredients (truffle butter $7-8, echire butter $7, oils and vinegars, etc.) at reasonable prices all things considered. Produce looked a bit sad but that wasn't what drew me in. Can't comment on their prepared foods as I did not try them.

One of the few establishments left in Murray Hill that actually has character and charm. As a result, it can get a little crowded at times, but it's worth it. Come here for great fresh fruit and veggies and an amazing selection of cheeses and meats. I also love their fresh-baked bread. Some of the pre-made foods are a little expensive and I'm not sure how long they've been sitting out (thats the same with any deli though), but everything else is incredibly fresh and awesome!

I LOVE LOVE this place. So glad I live near by! I bought the best brie-super fresh from france. Its like having a dean and deluca without the hoards of people and just a block from my place. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I buy fish, and cheese and veggies here. Its all fantastic!

    (5)
  • Angela N.

Maybe a good option for their cheeses and pre-made salads and packaged goods but not for fresh bagels. Even with it toasted, a smear of scallion cream cheese and slices of lox...it wasn't good eats in the least. And at $8.17 with tax...never again! Argh. Stopped by for a quick bite (and didn't have time for a trip to Ess-a-Bagel) before catching a movie at Kips Bay but will definitely head somewhere else the next time I'm in the same neighborhood.

Todaro Bros is a chill little specialty foods market smack dab in the middle of the west-of-W'burg land of annoying young whitefolk. The whole place has an odd fragrance to it, but the staff was friendly, the offerings impressive, and the cheese tasting satisfying.

Big fan of their sandwiches. They always give you a good amount for the price. I always stop here before going to the movies across the street.

Todaro Bros. was right around from the place I worked in NYC. The deli counter, which is hidden in the back of the store, is a wonderland of delicious meats and cheeses. If they had one song to describe themselves in a song, it would have to be a re-recording of John Mayer's "Your Body Is a Wonderland", re-titled as, "Our Deli is a Wonderland of Delicious Meats and Cheeses." Do people even know you can order sandwiches here? Maybe that's why there aren't any reviews. Because if they tried their prosciutto sandwich with the oil, they would get on your computer and write a review to let people know. If they didn't have a computer, they would BUY one, and then write a review. That good. Get it. Prosciutto, mozzarella, oil, tomatoes. The build your own sandwich option is good too. I can't speak too much for the grocery store, as I only went there for the deli meats, but I was amazed with how much they packed into such a tiny place. Every square inch has bread or spices or produce hanging off of it. Not in a gross way, but a really good way. The downside is, the sandwiches, especially the prosciutto, are pricey, and you can easily run the tab up to $10+ after adding on ingredients. You can build your own sandwiches too, or go with some of their more standard options, if that's your game.

A great local grocery store for this area. Best tuna in this area! Great sandwiches/ Always fresh and a very courteous staff. I love the fact that they are always accommodating when it comes to preparing a sandwich to your liking. The prices are also extremely reasonable. A greats pot for a quick, fresh and affordable lunch!

3 stars only because many times the sadwiches, bread, and food are not fresh... this shouldn't happen "THAT" frequently. 3 stars because they prices are outrageous compared to other and better Italian gourmet stores in NYC and also Brooklyn and Queens. 3 stars because none there is Italian.

For those of us living in the Hill of Murray and Bay of Kips Todaro is a great market for fresh fruits, veggies, cheeses, breads and meats. The staff is alway helpful and very knowledgeable, and their prices are completely reasonable. If you're into cheese they have a solid collection alongside artisanal breads and deli meats..oh, and the veggies always look good(how that's possible, I have no idea). Oh, they even have non-dairy cheese for those of us who are sensitive to the lactose. Todaro's the perfect little market, a little gem.

Apparently, when I was really little, my parents would take me to Todaro in my stroller. I've been back there a handful of times since but I wanted to yelp about my great experience the other night. I was asked to bring cheese and crackers for a gathering (which was last night), and I wanted to make sure I brought the perfect items. The man at the cheese counter was very helpful and let me taste the homemade goat cheese spread on a cracker. I'm not typically a fan of cheese unless it's cooked in food and even I liked it. I bought a pound of it and 2 boxes of those crackers. Everyone loved what I brought last night and asked me where they could go to buy the cheese for themselves. I know I'll be back to Todaro again!

It's a specialty store with expensive groceries. I only shop here if there's one or two things I specifically need. Otherwise, I'd rather trek down to trader Joe's for a much better deal. My workplace gets lunch catered by these guys and the sandwiches are terrible. Most likely, they make them a day ahead of time. The bread is hard enough to cut your palate. Avoid this place of you can.

Great specialty foods for affordable price (for nyc). Bakery and prepared food selection and quality are impressive. Great cheese selection! So glad I live in the neighborhood.

My choice for the best market in Murray Hill. From the wonderful butchers area stocked with beautiful USDA Prime cuts of beef, to the gorgeous exotic cheese selection, you are always in for a treat when you shop here. The pricing is somewhat high, but pretty reasonable for an upscale type market. Hey, the prices are better than what you'd pay at Gristedes and the Food Emporium, and the quality is 100% better. Pros - Great assortment of meat and cold cuts, wonderful cheeses, very good selection of hard to find gourmet items, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Cons - The fresh breads are usually unimpressive/stale, the produce can be pricey at times. This is always my first choice when I need good fresh ingredients for my cooking, or a quick sandwich on the go. Don't forget to check those out, they are great.

Another excellent place to stock up on Italian specialty food. While the store is small, they have an excellent selection of all of the Italian essentials. I recently picked up some San Marzano tomatoes, arborio rice, tagliatelle noodles, porcini mushrooms, and some fresh gnocchi (of the di patate variety). I would have bought a lot more, but being my first visit, I just wanted to get a feel for what they offered. The only drawback is that Murray Hill is not really a convenient location. When I saw 2nd avenue, I was hoping it was in East Village.

When looking for some good Italian food related items, Todaro's has just about everything. They have great selection of fresh veggies, cheeses, meats and seafood. All of the items they sell are related to Italian recipes. The meat section looks awesomely delicious with a wide variety of cured and processed cuts. Pancetta, prosciutto and so on, they have it. Aside from that they have all sorts of spices needed for most Italian delicacies. Oh, by the way, they have a nice selection of breads as well. Unfortunately for some of us who like these baked goods, their most special ones run out pretty quick leaving some of the bins empty. Sigh.. i like my bread, hmm some nice butter on that warm tasty goodness... ahem! sorry for the tangent... Besides that they have some prepared meals. These i have to say, event though they are pretty fresh, they are hit or miss. The problem i have with some of them is the flavor. I know current society is very wary about health aspects of their diets, but that is not an excuse for killing an otherwise perfect dish by making it bland. The space for this market is not that big... id say its a bit bigger than your standard bodega... not much more. Being small doesn't mean much against it, as they are always very well stocked. So, those of you with the Italian tooth... give it a try. By the way... prices are a bit above average.

The groceries here are upscale and pricey, but the reason to go is the deli: for fresh-made sandwiches. They will make italian delicacies on a roll that bring tears to your eyes (no, not onions, but it could be the bill). Good selection of charcuterie. The service is friendly but a bit impatient/brusque. Be prepared to double-check your order if the family isn't behind the counter - the hired help isn't nearly as thorough and careful. Do also note that sandwiches are treated like deli meat orders, with a 1/4 lb. minimum. That means if you like a sandwich like I do (prosciutto, mortadella, and sopressata with roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella cheese, leaf lettuce, olive oil & balsamic vinegar on a hoagie roll) that it will have a LOT of meat. Share with a friend or come very hungry.
